[Predator] & Adele Rodgers - Prep for Janvier MaidenAdele red the steamed bay colt out onto the track. Adele's arms were already slightly strained as she tried to keep the burly colt who was barely minding her presence today. She groaned, of all the days for him to be a bear!!!! The colt was fresh from his month of rest...almost to fresh. As soon as they had set foot on the track, Adele could see him looking around to see if there was competition on the track that he needed to chase down and scorn.
EASY Pred! The colt nearly ripped the reins out of her hands. Adele gritted her teeth and turned the colt into a tight circle....the fight for dominance now being waged.
Chill out. Adele had won as the colt then stood head slightly tossed. Eyes glinting. Ug. The quicker we start running the better.
There was little history behind Predator. Nick had seen him at a 2yo auction violent and sullen, but for some reason had been drawn to the flash of fire in the bay's eyes. He had been a complete devil the first few weeks at the barn. Biting at every person and horse...then Adele had mistakenly entered his paddock one day when looking for The Innocent Skier...Predator had charged her the moment he saw her enter his domain...Adele had thought about running, but suddenly she saw something in the colt and had stood her ground. Predator came to a sliding halt before her and glared...She didn't move or say words, but simply stood her ground and eyed the colt. Then she saw the anger in his eyes begin to diminish as he'd looked at her with respect. From that day forward, Adele did everything for him and with him.
They had run two impressive races in his 2yo season. Having come late into the season the edgy colt had yet to have placed outside of the money out of some very intimidating fields on GHF. Their last race they had come close, but now showing, but now their eyes were on the prize. Their eyes were on the winner's circle and Adele knew that this colt could take them there.
Adele nudged the colt into a canter and he graciously acquiesced. There we go...now we're talking. Adele's voice soothed the riled colt as they fell into their rhythm. Adele felt the muscles gradually begin to loosen up...and then she asked the colt for a gallop.
Today she would breeze him his 4 furlongs and call it quits. The field for this maiden race was quite packed and they needed to be fresh and on their A-game!
Predator was cruising nicely. The wonderful thing about this colt was that he was versatile. Come race day...if the front was too crowded, Predator had no issues extracting his revenge from behind....running behind just increased his determination to smash the competition in the final run.
But Predator also loved running up in the front from wire to wire...there was just this fire that Predator had that when he ran in the front it was like they belonged there...untouchable, fending off all challengers.....
Adele mentally smiled at the raw potential this colt had. At three years old he was more than ready to break his maiden. The flew over the dirt as Adele asked the colt for a little bit more...and more he gave.
Mentally Adele was clocking themselves as the poles flew by. The first two furlongs he'd run smooth and now with the final two, he was surging...the last furlong..Adele gave the colt his full head and he surged forward, now fully extended.
For all of his gruffness and mean looks, Predator above all else was a professional when it came to racing and he did his business well.
